Mountains and Passes

What players would know

In Qualihut, mountains are not scenery. They are logistics that can kill you.

Passes open and close on weather, rockfall, and politics. A road that exists in summer can be a death sentence in winter. Old markers drift under snow, and “safe” routes become stories people trade with more fear than pride.

Those who live by the passes treat travel as a discipline: layered clothing, counted rations, witnessed route rights, and rules about fires, noise, and waste. The mountain doesn’t care what flag you carry. It only cares whether you know how to move.

Common rumors

  • The fastest way through a mountain is to follow someone who knows when not to go.
  • Some passes go quiet: no birds, no insects, no echo—just absence. That’s when you keep walking.
