Refined Magic

What players would know #

Refined magic is magical power made portable: processed, contained, and traded. Spellcasters use it to push a casting beyond its ordinary limits or to fuel work that would otherwise be impossible. Everyone else treats it the way they treat gold and gunpowder at the same time—valuable, dangerous, and worth killing for.

In much of the Empire and its neighbors, refined magic is becoming a trade standard. Banks and caravans use it to back promissory notes and settle large transactions without hauling bulk coin. Where the Banking Guild is strong, it’s regulated, sealed, and audited. Where it isn’t, it moves like contraband with respectable paperwork.
